IUJ's Graduation Ceremony for 2004 was held on Thursday, June 24. 104 students, 52 from the Graduate School of International Relations and 52 from the MBA Program of the Graduate School of International Management, received Master's degrees. IUJ now has 2,024 graduates. IUJ had the pleasure of welcoming honored guests such as Mr. Kazuo Ogura, President of the Japan Foundation, and representatives from various scholarship foundations and sponsoring corporations and local area.
Addresses by President Yamazawa and Chairman Kobayashi, Dean's Report of Education Matters, and Conferment of Master's Degree Certificate were followed by the congratulatory address by Mr. Kazuo Ogura. In his address, he gave words of encouragement to the graduating students; "Today, the world faces the danger of being split into two camps. Dichotomy or polarization is witnessed everywhere. Even in our own mind, the danger of polarization or schizophrenia risks. As you go about your respective jobs, as members of the group of leaders charged with building your country or building the international order or environment, I sincerely hope that each of you will think of the spirit of "The key to success lies in the development of human resources and human network," which has always been alive in this campus and will continue to bless this university in the future.
The GSIR valedictorian, Mr. Mohammed Zubairu Wai, said in his address of thanks, "One important lesson I have learnt, that makes the afore-mentioned poem more meaningful to me is the fact that we are responsible for making ourselves, no matter how humble our origins or background. We should not forget to keep our sanity and sense of humor, so that no matter what situation we find ourselves in, for better and for worse, we can always look back to laugh at ourselves and smile at the scheme of things."
And the GSIM valedictorian, Mr. Tomohiko Sasano, said in his address of thanks, "We should remind that we are always on IUJ network all over the world and the network lasts forever. In other words, this is the first day of our new IUJ life and the campus moves from Urasa to global place. So please keep in touch anywhere, anytime. My best wishes for our future endeavors!"
