The World Youth Peace Summit will bring together 2,000 youths from all over the world and with varying interests to a major conference in Kenya in October. World leaders including Nobel laureates will help explore ways for the younger generation to contribute to the creation of a sustained peaceful world. A preparatory event was recently held in Bangkok Thailand. IUJ, through our alumni and students, played a meaningful part in it.
An IUJ alum from Japan is the overall summit co-chairman. An IUJ alum from Indonesia played a vital role in increasing involvement of Indonesian youth and the support of the Indonesian government. IUJ Alumni from other parts of the world helped nominate summit participants. Four current students helped recruit summit participants and spread the word of both the Asia Summit at the World Summit to come. Two current students were selected to represent their countries of Cambodia and Afghanistan at the first Asia-Pacific summit leading to the major World Summit in October in Kenya.
IUJ is at the center of the planning and implementation of the inaugural World Youth Peace Summit. A report from Farshid back to campus during the Asia-Pacific summit, held in late February tells us more: “We have worked on drafting a "Shared Vision" for a peaceful tomorrow and the draft was presented today. Later today we will come up with the action plans to achieve these visions. We are working hard on it! (For details of the Asia-Pacific summit, see the WYPS homeage.)"
Farshid has volunteered to help with a core project called for in the Action Plan - a develment of the community website to bring all the delegates together and share their ideas and action plans for their respective countries, and more.
The next major event will be held in October in Kenya and bring upwards of 2000 youth delegates to the first ever World Youth Peace Summit. To join the IUJ involvement in the summits, to nominate participants, and learn more, please see their website and get involved
