Q. Am I exempt from taking the TOEFL test?

A. Those who have formally completed an undergraduate or graduate program whose medium of instruction is English and located in Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, The Caribbean islands, the UK, and the USA are exempt.

Those who have formally completed an undergraduate or graduate program in countries/nationalities where the common language of education is English may also be exempt from submitting TOEFL score, or alternative IELTS or TOEIC score. Please see the full exemption policy guidelines, and categories, in the Admissions Guidelines.

Q. May I submit an official letter from my university certifying my proficiency in the English language in place of the TOEFL or IELTS score?

A. No, you may not.

An official TOEFL or IELTS score is one of the required application documents. We can accept a TOEIC score certificate as a substitute.

No other test scores or documents certifying the applicant’s English proficiency will be accepted.

Q. Does the admissions committee accept a photocopy of my TOEFL score report?

A. No.

If you send a copy, you still must request the official score report be sent to IUJ directly from ETS (ETS Institution Code: 0712).

Q. How old can my TOEFL score be to be accepted by IUJ?

A. Your TOEFL test results should be no older than 2 years (within the two years prior to the time of enrollment for GSIM applicants).

If you took TEOFL over 2 years ago, you must take it again, and have the results sent to IUJ to complete your application process for admission to the GSIR/GSIM.

Q. What is the institution code for TOEFL, GMAT and GRE score reporting to IUJ?

A. IUJ’s institution code is:
0712 for TOEFL
BV1-7F-20 for GMAT
0712 for GRE (take the General test)

Q. My TOEFL score is already above 100 on internet based (or 600 paper-based) exam. Do I still have to enroll in the Intensive English Program (IEP)?

A. Even so, you are recommended to take the IEP if you are not confident about your English skills including writing and oral presentation skills etc. or you feel you lack the ability to satisfy all the requirements in the content courses.

Q. Do I need to submit a GMAT and a TOEFL score to apply to your MBA/JGDP/DXP? (GSIM Only)

A. Yes, both GMAT and TOEFL* scores are required documents for admission. Your scores must be sent directly to IUJ from the test venders.

You may submit an IELTS or a TOEIC score instead of a TOEFL score.

You may submit a GRE score instead of a GMAT score.

The IUJ Math Test is also an option for DXP applicants. Those MBA and JGDP applicants can choose to take the IUJ math test in the 3rd intake only. Contact the Admissions staff for details.

For GSIR programs, GMAT/GRE are not required, but a TOEFL, IELTS or TOEIC are.

*See information on our narrow exemption policies for an English score submission.

Q. Can I submit a TOEIC Score Certificate for application for admission?

A. Yes, you may submit a TOEIC certificate instead of a TOEFL/IELTS score report. The score is valid only for two years from the test date. However, we strongly recommend you to take a TOEFL/IELTS test.

Q. What are the minimum TOEFL / IELTS / TOEIC scores? (GSIR Only)

A. GSIR’s minimum recommended TOEFL score is 550 (PBT) and 80 (iBT).

The minimum recommended IELTS score is 6.5 (Academic Module).

As for TOEIC, it is strongly recommended that applicants have 800 or above.

Please note that you can apply for admission even if your test scores are below the scores indicated above, as long as you submit a valid score report as part of the application documents by the designated deadline.

Q. GRE scores - are they required for GSIR admissions? (GSIR Only)

A. No.

IUJ’s GSIR does not require a GRE score as part of the applicaton process to our MA degree programs.
