Convention of Road Traffic (Geneva) member country/region
ONLY these countries and regions may use an international driver’s licenses in Japan, coupled with their valid country license. If you do not find your country on this list, you cannot drive without a Japanese license. See information on obtaining a Japanese license. Please note, China, Indonesia, Mongolia, Vietnam, etc. are NOT listed here.
Even if your country IS listed here, if you have been in Japan for any length of time, a new or renewed International License is ONLY valid if you have been out of Japan for a FULL 3 MONTHS as proven by your passport stamps. If one day short, you are illegal to drive in Japan.
